We’ve all been in that situation where we just wake up to a fresh breakout on our face. What makes it worse is when you have some sort of social engagement coming up soon and you need to get rid of your acne fast. While combating acne can be a slow and arduous process, I’ve found that there are some “quick fixes” you can apply to calm down your acne in a short amount of time. Read on for my top tips on how to get rid of acne fast.
Apply A Crushed Aspirin Paste
Aspirin is made up of salicylic acid which is an anti-inflammatory. This is perfect for attacking the inflammation that causes acne as well as helps to unclog and dry out your pores. It will also remove any dead skin and excess oil in the area. You’ll notice within a few hours that the redness and swelling in your most inflamed areas will be toned down significantly. The best way to apply this is by crushing a tablet of aspirin and mixing with a few drops of water to create a paste and applying to your pimple.
Studies show that oral consumption of zinc can actually decrease oil production in the skin as well as protection against bacterial infection and inflammation. Evidence has shown that up to 30 mg of zinc daily can be helpful in combating acne. Additionally, using a lotion containing zinc can also be helpful in quieting acne.
Ice Your Pimples
Ice is a great and easy way to reduce pain and swelling. It works to calm down inflammation as well as an analgesic. Wrap an ice cube in a thin cloth and set it on your pimple for 3-4 minutes multiple times a day. This will help calm down your acne significantly and help with any painful ones.
Don’t Squeeze Your Pimple
You want to resist the urge to squeeze a pimple. Popping a pimple causes trauma to the skin which can lead to acne scars that can be difficult to get rid of. Popping a pimple can also spread the bacteria to other parts of your face making your breakout worse.
Don’t Overdry Your Skin
If excess oil is the main thing that causes breakouts, doesn’t it make sense to just dry your skin out? Unfortunately, that isn’t how it works. Over drying your skin can actually lead to more acne. When your skin gets dried out, your sebaceous glands respond by over secreting oil. Additionally, dry skin can get irritated, dry, and flaky which just makes things worse.
Pimple patches can work great on very large inflamed pimples that are filled with pus. They can drain a stubborn pimple overnight and cause large acne to flatten pretty quickly. Just apply a patch onto your acne overnight and in the morning you can remove it and see how much pus it drained. It’s disgusting and satisfying at the same time!
Apply Green Tea to the Skin
Many people drink green tea for its numerous health benefits. However, green tea can also be used to spot treat acne when applied directly to the skin. Green tea contains lots of tannins and flavonoids which help fight inflammation and the bacteria that causes pimples.
It also contains high amounts of the antioxidant EGCG that has properties to fight inflammation, reduce sebum production, and inhibit growth of P. acnes.
The best method to applying this onto your skin is by boiling the tea and using a cotton ball to apply it onto your skin. Leave on for 10-15 minutes (or even overnight) and rinse off.
For me, green tea is a huge part of my routine and works amazingly as a weekly face mask to keep my skin looking clear and acne free. The benefits of topical green tea are substantial and can make a significant impact on your face when used regularly.
Sometimes, you just need to get rid of acne fast. Unfortunately, acne isn’t 100% avoidable, and sometimes it just happens. I hope that these tips have given you some ideas on things that you can do to quickly take care of acne!
