Homeopathic Treatment for Acne

Homeopathy is an alternative form of medicine developed in 1796 by Samuel Hahnemann. The belief is that a substance that causes symptoms of disease in healthy people can actually cure similar symptoms in sick people. While it has been around for hundreds of years, there is still not much scientific evidence that shows that it actually works. However, in my personal experience, homeopathic medicine has definitely seemed to have played a role in helping with my skin. I’ll be talking about some of my top favorite homeopathic treatment for acne that have given me positive results.

Homeopathic Treatment for Acne

There are a few different combinations of homeopathic medicines that can be used to treat acne. While I myself haven’t tried all of them, I do have experience with a few that have definitely given me some positive benefits. I am a strong proponent of homeopathic treatments, as not only do they address the root cause of the problem rather than just treating the symptoms, there are also no side effects with usage of homeopathy. It begs the question why people don’t at least try homeopathic medicines more considering there isn’t really a downside to using them as an adjunct to treatment. I’ll be going over my top 10 recommendations for homeopathic treatment for acne, and how you can implement them into your daily life.

This is a great option that addresses acne of all types – pustular, blackheads, whiteheads, etc. It is also very effective at calming down sebum production in people that have more oily skin. It can also treat very itchy acne that worsens with season changes. Finally, it can also be used to treat acne that is caused mainly from dietary issues – from eating sugary foods or foods high in carbohydrates or dairy. This is one of my favorite options that I have incorporated into my routine as it works for most types of acne quite well.

Sulphur is mainly used for very itchy acne. Typically, with itchy acne, people will scratch the skin which will induce even more inflammation and worsen the acne. Sulphur is great at calming down the itching and burning associated with this type of acne. It also works very well for recurring acne that has previously been treated with other medications or treatments.

Nux Vomica

Nux Vomica is mainly used for acne that also has some sort of gastric complaints associated with it. Typically, things like chronic constipation or indigestion can lead to inflammatory changes in the skin. If you are having digestive issues and find that you are also breaking out, this can be a great choice for you to add.

Silicea particularly works very well at targeting acne on the forehead. Especially for pustular and cystic acne, this can really target the acne and bring about quick improvements. Usually, this type of acne develops due to excess sweating or in people who have bangs which causes their oily hair to brush against the skin constantly. Silicea works as a great treatment in these types of patients.

Kali Bromatum

Kali Bromatum is a really great medicine for targeted areas – specifically the chest, shoulders, and face. It works great for either simple or complex acne. This medicine can also be used for scarring acne as well. If your acne is very red and inflamed, there is a good chance that Kali Bromatum can bring about fantastic results.

Hepar Sulph

Pustular acne responds incredibly well to Hepar Sulph. Since this acne is mostly seen in youth, it follows that Hepar Sulph works very well in younger patients. Any painful pimple that oozes pus, whether it be blood or yellow pus, will benefit from incorporating Hepar Sulph.

Pulsatilla Nigricans

This medicine mainly targets acne specifically in women. Especially if the acne is associated with menstrual irregularities of any kind, this medicine works wonders. Another indication for this medicine is acne in a girl undergoing puberty. Finally, this medicine will also work great for acne that is caused by fatty foods.

Berberis Aquifolium

This is the absolute top medication for scarring acne. This is another medication that I incorporate pretty frequently into my routine and it keeps my skin free of any acne scars. This is definitely one of those medications that you should take prophylactically to make sure that you don’t end up dealing with acne scars.

Antimonium Crudum

If you have mainly acne that is present on the cheeks with warmth and itching, then Antimonium Crudum could be right for you. The acne can be pustular or papular with yellow scabs covering it. This medication also works great in girls who are anemic with acne.

Bovista Lycoperdon

This is mainly used as treatment for any kind of acne that is made worse or induced with makeup. Usually, this type of acne is papular with possibly associated swelling of the cheeks. You can also have pain and itching associated with this type of acne.

Side Effects of Homeopathic Treatment

Since homeopathic medication is made naturally from different herbs and minerals found in nature, there are no side effects associated with these medications. They are literally just sugar pellets that contain diluted ingredients. This is why I believe that homeopathic treatments are something that should be tried by all people, as there is no downside to trying it.

So the big question is: “Does homeopathic medicine actually work?”. There’s no point in taking it if it doesn’t work. Sadly, there are little to no medical studies that explore the effects of homeopathic medication. Instead, many of the results are anecdotal. It is also unsure whether the medication is doing anything, or whether its just a placebo effect.

In my personal experience, I have tried homeopathic medications in the past, not only for acne, but for a wide variety of other things. And while I can’t say that I’ve had success every time, I can say that there have been times where I have noticed changes and improvements in my condition after taking the medication as prescribed. Whether this is attributed to a placebo effect, or whether the medication is doing work, I don’t know. However, to me, it doesn’t really matter as long as it works.

I still incorporate Psorinum and Berberis Aquifolium into my routine to this day. I do believe that these two medications do actually help bring about change. While I can’t attribute all of my success to these medicines (since I do have my Acne No More routine), I do believe that these treatments are a great adjunct to my current routine.

Hopefully, this has given you some more information about the best homeopathic treatment for acne. I do personally believe that there is some efficacy and use in using these treatments, especially as an adjunctive therapy. And since there’s no side effects to these medications, you literally have nothing to lose by trying it out. I hope that this article can guide you into choosing a treatment geared towards you and your specific acne and I hope that you will be able to find some success with what you choose!
